fcn Origins

A Legacy

First City Network is Georgia’s oldest LGBTQIA organization: founded by gay & lesbian pioneers willing to endure discrimination and violence in order to build a safe community in 1985 Savannah.

Originally working from the living rooms of its members, FCN began a community newsletter called Network News & steadily grew, moving into church spaces and then an office on Savannah's south side, before working as a coalition with other LGBTQIA organizations to establish First City Pride Center in midtown Savannah.

Many in our community may not realize the following organizations began with FCN:

Savannah Pride

Stand Out Youth

Savannah Gay Lesbian Film Society

PFLAG Savannah

First City Pride Center

FCN has had many iterations over its nearly-40-year-run, and has been a hub for information, history, resources, and events for newcomers and long-time residents in the greater Savannah LGBTQIA community.

FCN funds individual projects that help provide education and awareness to the community.

FCN continues to seek out new ways to unite the community and make resources easily available.

FCN constantly seeks out ways to increase the awareness in the greater Savannah community of the positive contributions that the LGBT community makes to the Coastal Empire.

Help us make the community better by becoming a FCN member today!
