Mark your calendars, and buy your tickets! To what? The showing of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert at the Lucas Theatre on Friday July 31.

It all starts soon after the doors open at 7:30pm on stage with an introduction by Tricksie Turner, leading into a small drag show by a bevy of Savannah beauties. The film will start at 8pm, and afterwards we will have a special presentation with Miss Gay America herself, Blair Williams!

Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is an Australian comedy-drama film and is considered a cult classic. The plot follows the journey of two drag queens and a transsexual woman, played by Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce, and Terence Stamp, across the Australian Outback from Sydney to Alice Springs in a tour bus that they have named “Priscilla”, along the way encountering various groups and individuals. It won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design and was praised for its positive portrayal of LGBT individuals, helping to introduce LGBT themes to a mainstream audience.

Tickets are $15 general admission, and are available online at, or by calling 912-525-5050. You may also pick up tickets in person at the Savannah Box Office at 216 East Broughton Street (Trustees Theatre box office window).

Sponsored by FCN, Club One, and the Lucas Theater, the proceeds from the event will benefit the LGBT Community Center fund drive. For more than 15 years, FCN has dreamed about and discussed the establishment of a LGBT Community Center. Recently the board developed a vision and a statement of need for this much-needed focal point. The proceeds for this wonderful evening of music, dance, and film will be designated for this project.

Come one, come all—and wear your best flip-flop dress!
